Hours and Fares

The Poway-Midland Railroad reserves the right to substitute equipment or cancel operations as required based on passenger volume, crew availability, inclement or hot weather, equipment failure, general safety, government directive, or other reasons as determined by our management. Our Volunteer Staff works very hard to meet your expectations, but sometimes circumstances warrant otherwise.

2024’s SUMMER/HOT WEATHER MODIFIED OPERATING SCHEDULE

• In effect until the weekend after Labor Day 2024, at least.  We will also use this hot weather schedule even during non-summer weekends if temperature forecasts are too hot.
  • SATURDAYS:  We will run the CABLE CAR from 9:00am to 1:00pm, last ride 12:45pm
  • SUNDAYS:  We will run the SPEEDER from 10:00am to 1:00pm, last ride 12:45pm
  • Please check our NEWS page or Calendar to confirm the schedule for the upcoming weekend.

(Winter, Spring, Fall) TRAIN SCHEDULE

• If the 1st day of the Month is on a Sunday, that entire weekend is counted as “First Weekend” (month xxx)
• Locomotive operates on 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 1st and 3rd Sundays from 11:00am to 2:00pm  
• (Depot closes and last ride of the day happens at either 3:45pm or 1:45pm….15 minutes prior to full closing)
• Cable Car operates 2nd Saturday, with Speeder on 4th Saturdays, and crew’s choice of Cable Car or Speeder on 5th Saturdays – all will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• (Depot closes and last ride of the day happens at 1:45pm….15 minutes prior to full closing)
• Speeder operates 4th Sunday and crew’s choice of Cable Car or Speeder on 5th Saturdays – all will operate from: 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• (Depot closes and last departure at 1:45)
• (No operations 2nd Sunday of each month: ‘Quiet Sunday’.)
• The Poway Midland Railroad has a new ADA compliant coach and ADA accessible lift… which will only be available when the new coach (the “Rattlesnake Creek”) is in operation.  The new coach operates the first and third weekend of the month, Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and during special events including 4th of July Celebration, and Christmas In the Park (a 2 day event)

OPERATION INFORMATION

Annual Schedule (subject to change as needed):

• Steam Locomotive: 1st Weekend & 3rd Weekend of each month.
• Cable Car:  2nd Saturday of each month, sometimes when we have a 5th weekend
• Speeder: 4th Weekend of each month,   sometimes when we have a 5th Weekend.

   No operations 2nd Sunday of each month: ‘Quiet Sunday’. 

Important Notes:

• No operations Easter Sunday.
• Closed from 2nd Sunday in December until 1st weekend past New Year’s Day in January. (Winter Break)
• If the scheduled equipment is not available, other equipment will be used.
• Note: If the 1st day of the month falls on Saturday or Sunday, that weekend will be considered the 1st weekend of the month for scheduling purposes.

TRAIN FARE

• Locomotive: $3.50 for Adults, $1.00 for Children
• Cable Car: $3.50 for Adults, $1.00 for Children
• Speeder: $2.50 for Adults, $1.00 for Children
